Webb is best known for his vibrant and complex colour work, especially from the streets of Latin America and the Caribbean. He has published 17 books, including The Suffering of Light, a survey of his colour work, and La Calle, his book of some 30 years of photographs from Mexico.
Over the past decade, he has collaborated on five books with his wife and creative partner, the photographer Rebecca Norris Webb, including Memory City and Slant Rhymes. Webb has exhibited at museums worldwide including at the Whitney Museum of American Art, the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, and the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego.
His work is in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY, and the Guggenheim Museum, NY. Webb became a full member of Magnum Photos in 1979. His work has appeared in National Geographic, the New York Times Magazine, Geo, and other magazines. He has received numerous awards and grants including a Hasselblad Foundation Grant in 1998, a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2007, and an NEA Grant in 2019.
