In his work, Magnusson is interested in exploring how our culture and our experiences affect our perception of that which surrounds us, and it has been the subject of exhibitions in Sweden, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Switzerland, Finland, Georgia and the United States. Magnusson’s extensive education in photography, with mentors such as Annika von Hausswolff, Anna Clarén and Anders Petersen, resulted in an MFA in photography from Valand Academy in Gothenburg.
He has received awards and honors from The Swedish Arts Committee, The Swedish Authors Fund, The Swedish Photo Book Award, Picture of the Year International, Picture of the Year Sweden, Hyeres Festival of Fashion and Photography, as well as being selected for the World Press Photo Masterclass.
In 2014, his exhibition Purity, was shown at Fotografiska Stockholm, where his first monograph with the same title, was launched (Max Ström). His latest project This Too Shall Pass (2017) has since been shown in Landskrona and Gothenburg in Sweden as well as in Lagos, Nigeria.
