Lisen Stibeck

Swedish, 1952–present

Stibeck works on long term projects. Her keen interest in teenage identity developed into her photo book Daughters (Max Ström 2014), showing portraits of girls and young women aged 16–25 originating from different countries, winning critical attention and international awards. More recently, her focus turned to the inner landscape of the psyche, opening up a world of dreams and archetypes as she delved into a form of magical realism.

In her latest work, the meditation on life and death is central. Her haunting black and white imagery carries a suggestion of emerging narratives, at times evoking loss, grief and death and her brilliant abstract color work is a celebration of life.

Stibeck is based in Sweden and regularly spends time in Morocco and France. Her work has been exhibited at Nordic Light Festival, Norge 2018 Galleri Sebastian Schild, Stockholm, Sweden, Alvarez Bravo Centro, Oaxaca, Mexico 2, Norrköpings Stadsmuseum, Mora Konsthall, Fotografiska Stockholm, National Museum Reykjavik.
