Mindfulness Fridays Meditation inspired by Florence Montmare's "Scenes from an Island"
Dec 12 12:00 PM, 2020 - Feb 5 1:00 PM, 2021Melani de Guzman will lead a series of meditations that focus on photos from Scenes From an Island by artist Florence Montmare, on view in Fotografiska’s online gallery as part of The Foto Sessions.
Each week, Melani will examine a chapter from the exhibit and explore themes including interiors & exteriors, persona & rite, black postcards, and incantation & refuge. Attendees will experience the soundscape and video installations created by Montmare while also dropping into a meditative space.
All meditations are on Fridays at 12pm

Melani de Guzman
LA native now settling in the Lenape Territory (otherwise known as New York City), Melani is a Filipinx-American multidisciplinary dance artist, actor, educator, community facilitator, and healer. In 2016 she moved to New York and has worked as a freelance movement artist with choreographers and producers. She’s the founder of ENTRE NOUS, a movement duo with double bassist, Sarah Favinger; performing works and sharing improvised works on reclaiming, rejoicing, and revisiting lineages. Along with being a movement artist, Melani is a teaching artist developing her own therapeutic movement curriculum working with students with special needs.
The heart of her work is rooted in healing, sensual embodiment, and social justice. She integrates her diverse practices and collaborative partnerships into site-specific solo works, dance films, and movement offerings. Melani reclaims her power and truth studying somatic movement practices, mysticism through astrology, and community.
