About the event
Please join us for a screening of the award winning documentary about female graffiti and street artists creating around the world. The film will be followed by a discussion and Q&A with the film’s Executive Producer, Zahra Sherzad, artist Maria “Toofly” Castillo, and legendary photographer Martha Cooper, whose work is currently on view in the museum as part of Hip Hop 50 Conscious/Unconscious through 5/20.

Zahra Sherzad – Executive Producer, Street Heroines
Founder of Noorvision LLC, an NYC based independent production company, and has been involved in the contemporary art world for 20 years curating and producing a number of art shows with recognized artists, musicians, DJs, filmmakers, and creatives that have gone on to define street culture as a whole.
Martha Cooper – Photographer
An American photojournalist, Martha worked as a staff photographer for the New York Post during the 1970s. She is best known for documenting the New York City graffiti and hip-hop scene of the 1970s and 1980s. Her books include ‘Subway Art’ (co-author Henry Chalfant), ‘Hip Hop Files’ and ‘We B*Girlz’, a worldwide exploration of women breakdancers in hip-hop.
Maria Castillo “Toofly” – Artist
Born in Ecuador and raised in New York City, artist Maria” Toofly” Castillo is recognized for her hard and fluid style and signature Love Warrior character. One of the few women in the art world to step into a male dominated graffiti scene in the early 90’s and help pave the way for others.
