Hero Image for In Conversation: On Terry O’Neill

About the Event

Join us for an in-depth conversation with members of Terry O’Neill’s inner circle, and co-authors of the book 1963: The Year of the Revolution, Robin Morgan and Ariel Leve. The conversation will focus on O’Neill’s reluctant embrace of the camera as the 60s began to swing and how his quest for an iconic storytelling image chronicled our cultural heritage and endured for a career spanning six decades.

As editor-in-chief of the Sunday Times Magazine, Robin Morgan commissioned O’Neill for more than two decades and spent three years burrowing into O’Neill’s archive uncovering unseen and long forgotten masterpieces among more than a million negatives.

Ariel Leve worked with O’Neill on assignment and it was an O’Neill photograph, of a then unknown band called The Beatles, that inspired the authors to write The Year of The Revolution.

Robin Morgan is a multiple award-winning British journalist and editor who was the longest-serving editor-in-chief of the London Sunday Times Magazine, from 1991 to 2009. He has worked as a news editor, foreign correspondent, and investigative journalist and was awarded British Campaigning Journalist of the Year twice. In 2013 he founded Iconic Images with the archives of his closest friend Terry O’Neill and built it into an international agency owning or representing the archives of more than 30 celebrated photographers exhibiting in 28 cities on four continents. He lives in London.

Ariel Leve is an author and award-winning journalist. Born in New York City, Ariel grew up with her mother, a poet, in Manhattan. At the age of five, she began traveling to Southeast Asia, where she spent part of the year living in Bangkok, Thailand, with her father, a lawyer. Leve worked as a Senior Writer on contract with The London Sunday Times Magazine from 2003-2011. She has written over a dozen cover stories, in-depth investigative features, and interviews. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Esquire and numerous other publications. She is the author of the critically acclaimed memoir, “An Abbreviated Life” published by HarperCollins.
