Midweek Mindfulness

Led by Abujahna Alveranaga from the Urban Yoga Foundation.

About the Event

Throughout life we encounter so many stressful situations that can affect us physically and emotionally. With vibrational sounds and mindfulness meditation practice we can help increase focus and reduce daily life stressors we face everyday.

With deep relaxation through soothing, resonant sound, the body is affected on a cellular. level, opening up the flow of energy to move us back toward vibrational alignment with health. Sound can help us shift our energy frequency from lower to higher, removing the lower frequencies of emotions such as fear, anger, and resentment.

Hone in on your ability to focus. Allow a better connection between yourself and others.

Abujahna Alveranga is a New York based artist, and art therapists in training. She works in an interdisciplinary manner — writing as weaving, drawing as translation, teaching as hospitality and commerce as everyday revolution. Her interest in healing arts through sound intersects into the creation of safe spaces for youth and adults. By constantly entering and exiting each medium, she strolls against the category of things, the expression of trauma and the division among people.

Abujahna has led workshops in New York at the Wyckoff Farmhouse Museum, MET, YMCA, Fed Cap, Connects, Dream HS & Internationally: Trauma healing workshops in Haiti for the GEP Foundation. She has shown/performed her works in galleries in NYC, Boston, Cuba, Haiti France, Armenia, and the Kremlin in RUSSIA. She has also been a guest lecturer at Casa De Africa in Havana Cuba, the UN in NYC and was the Director of Educator at Wyckoff Farmhouse Museum.

Abujahna holds degrees from Sarah Lawrence College and Bronx Community College. She received additional training from City College, Manhattan College, Emmanuel College (art therapy), CTI (domestic / ip violence), Dept. of Health( mental health first aid). Interned at New York Harm Reduction Educators and she has apprenticed at the United Brotherhood of Carpenters.
