Music of The Velvet Underground

Featuring Richard Barone &amp; Glenn Mercer.<br />

Hero Image for Music of The Velvet Underground

ABOUT THE EVENT

Join us for a rare performance by indie rock icons Richard Barone (The Bongos) and Glenn Mercer (The Feelies) in conjunction with the museum’s Andy Warhol: Photo Factory exhibition. The Velvet Underground were the Factory’s “house band,” managed and produced by Warhol beginning in 1966. Barone and Mercer have long been associated with and influenced by the music of The Velvet Underground, and both the Bongos and the Feelies were favorites of Lou Reed.

For this evening, the two artists will join forces to present a full set of songs from the Velvets’ catalogue, followed by a second set of related covers including solo tracks from Reed, Cale, Nico, and “next generation” legacy artists such as David Bowie and Roxy Music, as well as songs from their own catalogues. Sitting in with Richard and Glenn will be Feelies percussionist Dave Weckerman on drums and vocals, and Bob Torsello on bass.
