Ellen von Unwerth's images have graced the pages of Vogue, Interview and Vanity Fair. Her approach as a photographer was very much informed by her prior experience as a model, consistently being asked not to move, she liberated the role of her models by inviting play and movement to embody their roles.

During these 30 years a never-ending stream of stars have posed in front of von Unwerth’s camera for photo sessions that cannot be compared to any other shoots. It’s all about having fun and blurring the lines between fantasy and reality. Like a film director, von Unwerth creates a parallel universe where everything is possible, while always maintaining her professionalism. Since she took her first pictures during a modeling assignment in Africa some 30 years ago, she has produced a vast amount of incredible images, nine photo books, an almost incalculable number of magazine covers as well as various productions in her career as a film director.

In the treasure of work Ellen von Unwerth has produced over the years there are endless things left to discover. The exhibition Devotion! 30 Years of Photographing Women, made in collaboration with Fotografiska, is an exploration of seven different themes: Love, Play, Power, Gender, Lust, Passion and Drama.
