Jun Mabuchi Ceramic Mug
A member of the artist Collective Four Freedoms, Jun Mabuchi works in ceramics deploying Japanese aesthetics and training in designing his handmade pieces. His drinking mugs, modest and simple yet highly poised designs, contrast rough earthenware surfaces with smooth-finished glazes that display common elements expressing different characteristics once subject to distinctive ceramic processes; sediment in the clay shows as either minute speckling in unglazed sections, or bloomed freckles and dimples in fired slip and glaze washed areas. Parts combine to make a whole. Each handmade piece is unique, yet happy as part of a collective.
