Drifting Away Poster
“Drifting Away” shows a corked glass bottle floating at sea, inside of which are nestled houses, a church, trees and shrubbery, a flock of birds, and clouds.
Swedish surrealist photographer and visual artist Erik Johansson operates with as much technical skill as curiosity and boundless imagination. Creating worlds that feel familiar and unfamiliar to us at once, Johansson manufactures images of magic and fantasy that capture ideas rather than moments, and elicit a breadth of responses from childlike fancy to philosophical intrigue. In short, Johansson playfully employs photography to make possible the impossible — a principal theme directing the artist’s photographic practice and recent venture into moving images, as well as the topic of his TED Talk “Impossible Photography,” held in London in 2011.
“Drifting Away” featured in Imagine: Created Reality — Johansson’s solo exhibition at Fotografiska Stockholm held in 2016.
