Untitled #4 Poster
“The Birthday Party” was one of the first photo series created by Vee Speers. The series showing children in different costumes at a birthday celebration, was one of the first exhibitions taking place at Fotografiska.
Vee Speers’ inspiration for the series was her daughter's actual birthday party, with a costume theme.
When the party was over, Vee Speers started studying historical costumes that she thought fit the personalities of the children she was going to photograph.
The result was a series of greyscale photos of children where every trace of the usual comic book childishness is replaced with more mature, fully grown personalities.
In Speer's photo series, many of the costumes are inspired by World War II, which is clearly shown in this poster where a young boy is dressed as a soldier.
