Fotografiska New York has teamed up with Photography 4 Humanity and the United Nations Human Rights office to celebrate World Photography Day and World Humanitarian Day on August 19th.
In recognition of these global days for awareness, we’re sharing images by the top 10 finalists from the 2019 Photography 4 Humanity Global Prize Competition – a call to action for amateur and professional photographers who have best captured critical human rights issues of the past year through the medium of photography.
World Humanitarian Day is a United Nations Day paying tribute to aid workers who risk their lives in humanitarian service, and to rally support for people affected by crises around the world. This year World Humanitarian Day comes as the world continues to fight the COVID-19 pandemic over recent months. Aid workers are overcoming unprecedented access hurdles to assist people in humanitarian crises in 54 countries, as well as in nine additional countries which have been catapulted into humanitarian need by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Submissions for the 2020 Photography 4 Humanity Global Prize Competition are now open through August 31st. The Global Prize Recipient and Top 10 Finalists will be announced on December 10th, Human Rights Day, and will be invited to exhibit their work at Fotografiska New York as well as the United Nations Headquarters in NYC. The winning entry will also receive the Photography 4 Humanity Global Prize and a cash reward of $5,000 USD.
