Taking the next step with our Autumn Salon – introducing Fotografiska Talent

Museum - Open today 09:00 ― 23:00

11:18 - 21 Sep 2018

The Autumn Salon at Fotografiska is celebrating its fifth anniversary in 2018 and so we're taking the next step and donning a new outfit: Fotografiska Talent. Sweden's largest juried exhibition has evolved into an important reflection of modern times and remains open to applications from all Swedish citizens, as well as long-term residents. This year it is obvious that the focus in on the human being.

For four consecutive years, Fotografiska has been the creator – and proud host – of the largest juried exhibition in Swedish photography, known as the Autumn Salon (now Fotografiska Talent). Open to all photographers – established as well as amateur – the Fotografiska Autumn Salon has become more than simply a platform for showcasing Swedish photography at its best. With its breadth of varied expressions, emotions and techniques, it's evolved into an exhibition that receptively reflects the times and highlights issues of central importance to modern-day society. Everything from climate change and humankind's relationship to nature through current political challenges to poetic imagery has captivated visitors to Fotografiska. Since 2014, when the Autumn Salon was inaugurated, many thousands of photographers have applied, a hundred or so have been selected by the various renowned juries and hundreds of thousands of visitors have flocked to the exhibitions.

It’s becoming clear that people as human beings are at the centre of things in 2018 in Fotografiska Talent. At a time when voices questioning whether people are equal are becoming louder and louder, Talent focuses on the human being in all its forms. Examples are Ali Lorestani’s portrait of the Kurdish woman refusing to give up hope, Carla Lomakka’s kissing couple, Lina Scheynius’s woman in the water, Erik Gustafsson’s black-and-white portrait of a group hanging out on a couch in “This is farewell”, LouLou d’Aki’s portrait of different cultures occupying a small space…

"This year, 2018, will mark the fifth anniversary of Fotografiska's Autumn Salon and we're celebrating this milestone, which is why in 2018 we're introducing Fotografiska Talent. An exhibition that will retain the core elements of the Autumn Salon as a tribute to Sweden's photographers, both established and amateur, and all photography enthusiasts and residents of Sweden, explains Johan Vikner, Exhibition Manager Fotografiska International.

The Fotografiska Talent exhibition will open at Fotografiska Stockholm at the end of September.
All Swedish citizens and anyone resident or spending a long time in Sweden who is at least 18 years of age are welcome to apply. Otherwise, there are no restrictions, you needn't be a professional photographer to participate in Fotografiska Talent 2018.
