The Pet Show
Hand against paw, skin against fur. Man and pet, an inseparable bond.
A mutually beneficial and dynamic relationship that is considered crucial for the health and well-being of both parties.
For artists, the often furry friends have not always been faithful companions. Throughout the history of art, pets are portrayed, often carrying different kinds of symbols. Status, power, loyalty or perhaps love and compassion. In contemporary photography, the image and use of pets is varied. From documentary photographs to arranged portraits, to thousands upon thousands of photographs and videos of the funniest, cutest and craziest pets on various social media platforms.
The Pet Show is a tribute to the pet and their presence in art and popular culture. With 26 artists and more than 140 works, we put the pet on a pedestal and regard it from all possible perspectives: as companions, status symbols in the human world, friends and beloved family members or as works of art.
The exhibition Partner to The Pet Show is Granngården.
Is my pet allowed to come along?
We’re all about inclusion, but unfortunately we have to draw the line at pets as other guests might be allergic. Guide and assistant dogs are of course welcome.
