3 x Slide Show: Les choses perdues resteront silencieuses
The work of Canadian artist Véronique Ducharme is fuelled by experiences of alterity and the futility of trying to grasp the essence of the Other.
Beyond their apparent baseness, they translate an experience of loss
Les choses perdues resteront silencieuses (lost things will remain silent) presents works created from found pieces of clothing in an attempt to express the void left by the absence of a human body. These familiar yet strange forms haunt the space in silence. Not unlike the shell left behind by certain insects after undergoing metamorphosis, these figures strike a fine balance between the literal and the uncanny. Beyond their apparent baseness, they translate an experience of loss.
Véronique Ducharme received her Master in Arts from London College of Communication in 2010. She is currently based in Montreal, her hometown, where she also teaches photography. Her work received the Gabor Szilasi Prize from Concordia University in 2007. It has been shown in London, Montreal and Vancouver, and published in Carte Blanche by the Magenta Foundation in 2004.
