In his book Allt som är i himmelen, Wågström turns the camera upwards, facing the sky searching for signs and formations – leaving the observer to see what he or she wants. In the second book of the trilogy, Nackar, he catches the mood of people turning away and perhaps the most vulnerable and unprotected part of the body. Through these three perspectives, he examines the unknown and mysterious about human existence.

Thomas Wågström

Was born in 1955 and works as a photographer and curator. His photographic work moves between masculine environments and poetry created from memory. He has published eight books of photography, which have resulted in several awards and grants. The latest, På Jorden is the last of a trilogy which started with Allt som är i himmelen in 2012 followed by Nackar in 2014. In På Jorden, Wågström turns his camera downwards from his balcony on the 13th floor, capturing moments of everyday life on earth; children playing in a playground, unexpected meetings in the street, people randomly crossing each other’s tracks in the snow. All in their own chapters of life, unaware of each other and yet crossing paths.

Using his personal and distinctive world of images, he frames the human condition on earth. Wågström is represented at Moderna Museet, in the portrait gallery at Nationalmuseum, and at the På Jorden exhibition at Fotografiska from 20 November 2015–17 March 2016.
