“There has never been any other alternative profession for me; from the beginning, I have only ever wanted to be a photographer. Taking photographs, the sense of the click when the photo is taken, is a physical feeling for me, and a love of the image has always been incredibly strong."

Emilia Bergmark-Jiménez

Has completed a two-year vocational programme focused on magazines and advertising at the Gamleby School of Photography. She has also studied interpretive photography for a year at the same school, followed by a year at the School of Photography at Gothenburg University. From 2010, Emilia has worked full-time as a free-lance photographer, primarily with commercial advertising assignments and represented then by the Söderberg agency (since 2011).

Apart from her commercial commissions, she is engaged in her own artistic projects, holds exhibitions and actively works to support and inspire other women in photography. Emilia also lectures on photography, gender equality and idealism. “There has never been any other alternative profession for me; from the beginning, I have only ever wanted to be a photographer. Taking photographs, the sense of the click when the photo is taken, is a physical feeling for me, and a love of the image has always been incredibly strong.

I was twelve years old when my father gave me a Nikon F3 for my birthday. It was the first time a camera was put in my hands, and since then, I have loved photography. I have always known that I wanted to do something more than just take perfect advertising photos. My conviction is that photographs can change ways of looking at things. I have developed my imagery in harmony with my political agenda, i.e., my ideology is reflected aesthetically.

I struggle to maintain both my imagery and my convictions in my commercial activities. This is both problematic and difficult, but I am firmly convinced that by working subversively in the advertising industry, I can change structures and can work away from the perfect, plastic advertising aesthetics that have become predominant."
