Orange Heliconia No. 1 Poster
This poster rendition of David LaChapelle’s Orange Heliconia No. 1 distils a fantasy of an uncontaminated world of vulnerable, luxurious nature into an image of a single heliconia stem. In the background are the calm waters of Hawaii, a calmness LaChapelle first sought refuge in over fifteen years ago when he abandoned the celebutante United States for Hawaii. This image was taken in 2020 — it stands as a punctuating clarity and call for spiritual ruminating on the relationship between body and nature, perhaps like an O’Keeffe painting, amidst the turmoil and murkiness at the start of the pandemic that year, yearning for an alternate reality to the one we quite quickly fell into.
