This poster reproduction of Herb Ritts's 1990 photograph "Versace Dress, Back View, El Mirage" is a compositional tour de force. Ritts at once highlights the fine couture of the gown, with the style of the black pump shoe, and - deploying highly disciplined lighting - abstracts the subject into something quite other. The enveloping dark fabric canopy frames and precisely shadows the figure, but casting not a trace of shade on the ground around the model. The severe minimalist grace of the image recalls the floral abstractions of Georgia O'Keefe.
