Porodina's almost minimalist image of 2021 - an anonymous caped figure in a simply shaped but outsized hat - evokes a dream state recall; we seem to have encountered this presence somewhere before. A weightless specter hovering above a shadow; a blurred memory; an archetypal mystery passing through waking consciousness, it resonates. As does the best of this photographer's work, who shows an ability to use black and white photography as efficiently as the world of color in the making of rich and strange realities.
