Fotografiska to Illuminate the Arctic with Two Captivating Exhibitions in Nusfjord
In 2026, in an exclusive partnership with Nusfjord Village & Resort – one of Norway’s most historic and beautifully preserved coastal destinations – we will present two exhibitions and a dedicated cultural weekend that draws global creativity to the far north.
This collaboration reflects our mission to inspire a more conscious world through the power of visual storytelling. It also builds on Nusfjord’s vision to host exceptional cultural experiences that connect guests with both art and nature. Together, we will welcome internationally acclaimed photographers Rinko Kawauchi and Elizaveta Porodina to the Arctic, creating a dialogue between their visionary work and the region’s dramatic landscapes.
Framed by sweeping fjords and the shifting light of the Arctic Circle, Nusfjord has long attracted creatives, culture seekers, and travelers from around the world.
As Fotografiska celebrates its 15th anniversary and prepares for the opening of Fotografiska Oslo in 2028, our 2026 exhibition in Nusfjord (March–October 2026) offers an early glimpse into the cultural momentum building across Norway. Lofoten’s profound connection to photography—and its reputation as one of the most photogenic destinations in the world—makes it an ideal stage for an exhibition that merges artistry and environment in unforgettable ways.
The works of Kawauchi and Porodina, presented against the beauty of the Arctic, embody our commitment to inspiring new perspectives and fostering deeper emotional connection through visual culture.
Nusfjord x Fotografiska Launch Weekend: A Fusion of Art and Gastronomy
To celebrate the opening, we will host an exclusive Nusfjord x Fotografiska Weekend in April 2026. Inspired by Nusfjord’s acclaimed culinary event with Michelin-starred restaurant RE-NAA in May 2025, this immersive weekend will unite world-class photography, culture, and gastronomy.
Guests will experience a curated program of exhibitions, bespoke dining experiences that will highlight regional ingredients and creative culinary talent.
A Meeting of Worlds: Art, Culture, and the Arctic
Bárbara García, Chief Executive Officer, Fotografiska, said:
“We believe photography should travel as far as our curiosity does. Teaming up with Nusfjord lets artists and audiences meet in a place that’s as unforgettable and inspiring as the work itself.”
Our partnership with Nusfjord not only lays the groundwork for our arrival in Oslo in 2027 but also reinforces a shared ambition: to create moments where art, nature, and community come together in ways that resonate deeply and endure.
Caroline Krefting, Owner of Nusfjord Village & Resort, shared:
“We are honored to collaborate with Fotografiska on this extraordinary project. I still remember the first time walking through Nusfjord with Bárbara and Pauline, speaking about the vision. The contrasts struck me most—the rawness of nature against the refinement of art, the silence of the mountains meeting the pulse of human creativity. To see this project take shape is a true value for life – both personally and collectively. Bringing international artists like Kawauchi and Porodina to Lofoten allows us to create a moment where art, nature, and hospitality converge in one of the most spectacular landscapes on earth. This exhibition not only celebrates Fotografiska’s journey but also marks a defining cultural moment for Nusfjord and Norway.”
